A Wiltshire therapy and healing centre could be set up on one of the country’s most impressive estates, after it was put on the market in 2020 at a guide price of £35 million.

Bowden Park Estate is located five miles to the south-east of Chippenham and extends between Pewsham to its north and Bowden Hill to the south.

The new owners have proposed the refurbishment of a barn range within Bowden Park Farm, a historic farm complex near the main residence.

The planning application, which was recently submitted to Wiltshire Council, details plans for the conversion of the Grade II Listed Tithe Barn range into a therapy and healing centre.

The application states: “Dating from the 1800s, the Tithe Barn has suffered much damage and repair over the course of its lifetime, including a phase of re-roofing in the 1960s.”

It adds: “The barn is understood to have been empty and redundant for approximately 30 years.”

The proposals include an exercise and events space which would host “a programme of uses including mental health, physical health, nutrition, low-impact living, community and recovery.”

According to the design statement, the owners have the intention to dedicate the wider estate to “organic agricultural principles, self-sustenance, and a more ethical relationship to the land.”

Wiltshire Council will make a decision by May 17.
